Now - There is no actual harm either in submitting your URL to search
engines, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

1)        It takes just a couple of clicks of your mouse at each one, and there is
no magic behind it so don’t pay someone if you want to do this.  Just Google
on “submit my URL to ______ (Yahoo, Bing, MSN, AOL, and of course Google)
– and you will get listings that will take you right to the sources, and once
there it is usually as simple as entering your URL and hitting enter!

2)        If you do choose to submit just know that this is a super small piece of
an overall SEO strategy.  All – and I do mean ALL it does is get your website
indexed.  In other words, it only announces to the search engines that your
website exists.  There is no guarantee that they will ever even crawl your
site.  The truth is – if you are doing other SEO activities (most of which are
also free) – you will be indexed within a couple of weeks or so anyway.  And
guess what?  You will be indexed because you are being crawled.  In other
words – the search engine is now indexing you because it has at least a
small amount of interest – not because you announced yourself.  That’s much
better…don’t you think?

3)        Many who promote the practice of submitting or try to take people’s
money for this are possibly making false claims.  For one they may tell you
that you need to resubmit every few weeks.  Please, don’t do it!  You could
completely cripple your SEO for an unknown amount of time to come.  The
search engines hate this practice.  The second thing is that you cannot get
search engine ranking without several factors being in place.  For instance –
approximately 40% of Google’s algorithm looks to see if you have quality
back links.  Then there is proper keyword usage; proper application of page
titles & meta data; social media integration; domain age, and a few other
factors to consider.

The one thing you can do, that is often confused with submitting “getting
listed” in the search engine directories.  Once they accept you (be sure to
read the fine print) then this has the potential to become a big source of
those quality back links I mention above.  So – Don’t Submit!  Get Listed!

For Email Marketing you can trust
be a lot of false information out there
for the unsuspecting.  One of the
biggest, and in my mind one of the
most misleading pieces of information,
is on the topic of “submitting” your
websites to search engines.  The
result is supposed to be that if you
pay a company some ridiculous
amount of money (even if it is $5.00 –
that’s ridiculous) you will get your
website listed at the top of the search
